"Part of the Alpha series, inspired by Carl Jung’s concept of individuation, where each sculpture reflects a unique stage in the journey toward self-realization and integration."
α II Vulva embodies the multifaceted essence of shelter through its intricate interplay of organic forms and protective structures. Its curving, tubular forms intertwine and envelop, evoking a sense of both containment and flow—an echo of the nurturing embrace of a sanctuary. The grounded, textured surface, reminiscent of ancient stone, contrasts with the smoother, sinuous elements, symbolising the delicate balance between vulnerability and resilience.
The sculpture features two bubbled forms, like protective eggs, anchoring the piece. These elements act as memory stones, representing the enduring facets of identity and heritage, grounding the work in notions of internal refuge and resilience. The protective shapes, with their fragmented textures, evoke a primal connection to nature, creating a sense of belonging and safety.
In the journey of individuation, shelter becomes both a necessity and a metaphor—offering spaces of protection and self-acceptance as we confront and integrate the multifaceted layers of the self. This piece explores the tension between protection and exposure, inviting viewers to consider how shelter—both internal and external—shapes our sense of security and wholeness.
