The Alpha Series is a sculptural exploration of Carl Jung’s concept of individuation, approached as a process of transformation. By translating the frequencies and expansions of alpha brain activity into material form, the series turns an abstract inner state into a tangible experience. It examines the journey through which unconscious elements move toward conscious awareness; while an initial sense of compression, turbulence, and blockage is present at the core, the sculptural process guides this intensity toward the clarity associated with the alpha state.
Alpha I represents the initial threshold of this transformation. Mirroring the first moment of confrontation described in Jung’s individuation process, it captures the mind’s shift from internal chaos toward the calm, widening field of the alpha state. This threshold marks not only a personal passage but also an inner awakening that resonates as a universally shared human experience when one encounters the deeper layers of the self. The work makes visible the inevitable conflict at the beginning of psychological transformation and the intensity that this encounter generates.
